Agave Silvestre

For most of the 20th century, it was illegal to produce or sell Bacanora, with the only exception being to friends and family. Though punishable by death if caught, it did not deter the people of Sonora from continuing production in hidden, rudimentary locations rather than in the haciendas that were once home to production. Rancho San Isidro, was one of those haciendas, the old vinata and hacienda abandoned, the hectareas of wild agave quiet, uncultivated, unfertilized, waiting to provide their piñas to a new generation of Bacanora aficionados. In 2020, the idea was born to raise Rancho San Isidro from its slumber, build a new, sustainably minded distillery, and to produce bacanora once again.
